Artist's Statement:
This is the only female in my nude model series. At VCU’s Drawing Unplugged class, we had two days where a nude model came in to help us with our figure drawing. On the last day, although I had to leave early, I had two hours to work on the female model that we had with us. I was pleased with how I captured the outline of her body, and our instructor complimented me on that.

Artist's Statement:
I knew that I wanted some representation of my graphic novel when we were assigned to do a painting project in art. I decided to make a representation of my hard work and dedication into creating the story, designing the characters, and putting my ideas together. I decided to do that by having the main character of Colors, Arin, be controlled like a marionette doll with strings coming from my fingers. The strings are red to represent blood and passion, because I poured out all of my convictions into their story. I don’t work with paint very often, so I was very pleased with my mixing and how my hair came out.

Hanover County Public Schools Advance College Academy Handbook, 2018-2019                                                                         Return to Portfolio

Artist's Statement:
Our Advance College Academy (ACA) career counselor sent out a request for designs for the handbook they were creating for the Lee-Davis branch of the program. I sent in my design, and the Board liked it enough that they asked me to adjust it to be the design for the whole Hanover County branch, which was surprising and humbling to me. Even if no one else had submitted designs, they wanted to use something I created instead of hiring a professional. I knew I wanted to create my own 3D letters for “ACA”, and I used two other pre-installed fonts from my computer: the Broadway font for “HCPS” and “HANDBOOK”, and Franchise Bold for “2018-2019”. I originally had a sword in the design to represent the Lee-Davis flag, which includes a sabre, but it was vetoed for the overall design because it implied violence. I liked the original design more.

As a character designer, human anatomy plays an important role in what I draw. I did this drawing of a skull based on a replica we had available. I wanted to improve both my observational drawing and my understanding of the skull’s structure. This piece is part of my Drawing Unplugged series, completed during my course at VCU.
