Inkwash
Artist's Statement:
As an art project in class, we all had our pictures taken so we could do a self portrait. We then drew the picture out and made a grid on the picture. Afterwards, we transferred that grid over to a larger piece of paper with the picture and painted it. We put chalk where we wanted shadows to be, and we painted the whole thing with India ink. I wanted to have dark shadows with lots of contrast, so I used chalk liberally wherever there was shadow, especially in my face. After the India ink had time to set, I washed it off to get this piece.

Colors, Chapter 1
Artist, Ashton Will
Digital Art
Artist's Statement:
Colors has been my pet project since the summer of 2017, when the idea for the story began developing in my mind. I began designing the characters around that time and got some feedback from VCU concerning the designs when getting my portfolio reviewed for the first time. After working since then, I improved the design, wrote out the script, and prepared the first chapter of my graphic novel. First, I made skeletons of all the characters for a page on tracing paper, and then I went in and detailed the skeletons. Once the drawing was done, I traced the designs onto sketchbook paper with a light box using India Ink artist's pens, making lines with fine point pens and shading with gray pens. Finally, I scanned each page in, cleaned it up in Illustrator, and added dialogue.

Charcoal
When I started working on this piece, I was not very skilled at using charcoal. I did this portrait as part of a drawing class at VCU where we studied the human figure, and we focused on using charcoal and graphite. By drawing ourselves, we had an opportunity to work on observational drawing, human figure drawing, and work with charcoal.

Artist's Statement:
After being asked to do the graphic design for these shows, I researched the three productions. They were adjusted for marketing purposes. Our Town is about the everyday life in a small town, so I wanted to include a cityscape. My original sketch did not have the water tower, but I added it in later to offset the work and make it more interesting. The play also has symbolism in ladders and train tracks, so I made a ladder up to the moon that also functions as a track into the town. I made the font myself. "And" is a one act where the main character, Aaron, considers how millions of events are happening every second. He is coping with the fact that his sister was raped in the room next to his while he was playing a game. I wanted to convey the contrast with their events using black and white. The font is Broadway. Little Women is about the lives of four sisters as they are growing up, so I simply put portraits of them in the corners with Vivaldi Italic forming the words.

"Karen worked with me on a large process-based project for a Fortune 200 company. Karen demonstrated 3 strengths that were highly valuable for the project.
1. Karen was highly motivated. She was ready to jump in with the team, quickly learned as much about the project as she could, and was focused on the end result.
2. Karen came into the project with a solid process expertise and the work experiences needed to add value. With this, she was able to quickly understand the issues and the desired outcome of the project. Karen brought the experiences from past projects that afforded her the opportunity to make several insights, observations, and recommendations that helped drive our deliverables.
3. Finally, Karen’s ability to build relationships with the client’s personnel in order to capture the information needed was instrumental in us meeting both our objectives and timelines."
