This is a living document. I'll gradually add items, as I notice that I need them or as friends suggest them.
- Colander - At low tide, a colander can be a great tool to sort through material under 12 in of water. Also, if I'm with family and we're there for a while, I use the colander to go ahead and clean everything up before leaving.
- Grabber - Some people have so grabbers with equivalent of a colander on the bottom. Mine is the medical type of grabber.
- Bottle of water - Even though I wash my shells in the ocean / river, It's nice to have the bottle of water just in case. And if I haven't already used it, I clean my feet with the water before I get back in the car.
- 7-day medicine box, to hold tiny shells or special finds - A couple weeks ago, I lost a Pawley's Island shell when it fell out of my hand. This is a great place to put shark's teeth.
- Small waterproof box with bubblewrap inside - This works well for more fragile things like a crab shell or starfish.
- Large magnet 🧲 - If you are like me and rockhound while you're on the water, a magnet will help you with identification.
- Toothbrush 🪥 - I especially like to brush off fossils that might have calcite inside.
- Ruler 📏 - a quick photo often benefits from having a scale. If you forget the ruler though, your "car key" will work to demonstrate size.
