I was just watching a TV show, and rhubarb was an ingredient brought by a contestant. The host said that chefs in Italy weren't very likely to use rhubarb. That amused me, because I remembered seeing an ad for Rhubarb Life Savers. (Yes, you read that correctly!) And the only country that I had ever seen make that flavor was Italy.
Just to find it fast, I looked up the ad in Google, but it noted, "There is no official rhubarb flavor produced by Life Savers candy." Maybe not now, but it probably would have been nice if Google had noted that rhubarb had been produced in the past.
The name of the company authorized to produce them was the Milanese company, Motta. They are actually exceedingly well known, because in addition to their lines of confectionary, they revolutionized the pannetone industry.
The actual ad which included the rhubarb Life Savers featured a 1950s black telephone. It read, "All numbers are good." Each of the "numbers" on the rotary dial was a different colored Life Saver. https://pin.it/2DIV9vx0x
A very similar ad actually appeared in the US, with the same telephone, but it read, "Call for Life Savers...say hello to refresh-mint." Each of the numbers on its rotary dial was a white mint Life Saver.https://ebay.io/m/Q7
SOOO... If you found Rhubarb Life Savers somewhere, would you want to try them?
